Major breakthrough of the metallic additive manufacturing process in making aerospace serial production runs

The below link features an article explaining in details the incredible journey of GE Aviation that had their new GE9X aircraft engine (to be installed in the future Boeing 777 aircrafts) approved by the FAA.

This engine features 7 different 3D printed components totalizing 304 printed pieces per engine.

Among other improvements brought in by the additive manufacturing process is the making of the fuel nozzles made in one printed part (while it used to be a 20 pieces-assembly) with a 25% weight reduction while the the 3D printed part is 5 times stronger than the former traditionnal weldment part.
